Welcome to Split! These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Split mobile application ("App") and any related services (collectively, the "Service") provided by Split ("we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account or using our Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. The Service
Split is a mobile application designed to help users easily split expenses. The Service allows you to scan receipts, automatically extract item and price information, assign expenses to friends, track shared debts, and settle balances with other users.
2. User Accounts
To use the Service, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during the registration process. You are responsible for safeguarding your account password and for all activities that occur under your account. You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
3. SMS Messaging and Notifications
By creating an account, you consent to receive transactional SMS (text) messages from us. These messages are essential for the functionality of the Service and include, but are not limited to:
- Phone number verification codes.
- Notifications when you are added to a split.
- Updates on shared expenses and balances.
- Reminders to settle outstanding debts.
- Confirmations of payments logged through the Service.
You can opt-out of receiving SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any message you receive from us. If you need assistance, you can reply HELP. Please note that opting out of SMS messages may impact your ability to use certain features of the Service, such as account verification.
Message and data rates may apply to the sending and receiving of SMS messages, as determined by your mobile carrier. Split is not responsible for any charges from your carrier.
We will not share or sell your mobile phone number to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
4. Subscriptions and Payments
Certain features of the Service may require a paid subscription ("Split Pro"). Subscription fees, billing cycles, and features are described within the App. Payments are processed through the Apple App Store. All purchases are subject to the App Store's payment terms and conditions. Subscriptions will automatically renew unless you cancel them through your Apple ID account settings at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
5. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with third-party services like Venmo to facilitate payments between users. When you use these services, you are subject to their respective terms of use and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the performance or security of any third-party services.
6. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to engage in any activity that could harm the Service, other users, or our reputation. This includes, but is not limited to, uploading malicious content, attempting to gain unauthorized access to our systems, or using the Service to harass or defraud others.
7. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms. You can delete your account at any time through the settings within the App. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases, and we may delete your account data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Split shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses.
10. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
