- Personal Information: When you create an account, we collect personal information such as your name, phone number, and email address. We may also collect your Venmo username if you choose to provide it.
- User Content (Receipt Data): We collect the images of receipts you scan and the data extracted from them (e.g., items, prices, totals). This information is used to create and manage your shared expenses.
- Contacts Information: With your explicit permission, we may access your device's contacts to help you find and invite friends to the App. We only access this information after you grant consent, and you can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
- Usage Data: We automatically collect information about how you interact with our Service, such as your IP address, device type, operating system, and actions taken within the App.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for several purposes:
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
- To create and manage your account.
- To send you transactional SMS messages for account verification and notifications about your splits and payments, as detailed in our Terms of Use.
- To help you find friends from your contacts if you have given us permission.
- To facilitate payments between you and other users via third-party services like Venmo.
- To respond to your support requests and questions.
- To monitor and analyze usage to enhance the user experience and security of our Service.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:
- With Other Users: Your name, username, and profile picture are visible to other users you are in a split with.
- With Service Providers: We share information with third-party vendors who perform services on our behalf. This includes:
- Supabase: For database hosting, authentication, and file storage.
- Twilio: For sending transactional SMS messages for phone verification and notifications.
- PostHog: For product analytics to help us improve our service.
- Apple: For processing "Split Pro" subscription payments via the App Store.
These service providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and are restricted from using it for any other purpose. We do not share your phone number with third parties for marketing purposes.
- For Legal Reasons: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Split, our users, or others.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
4. Your Privacy Choices and Rights
- SMS Messages: You can opt-out of receiving transactional SMS messages by replying STOP to any message. For full opt-in details, please see our SMS Consent page.
- Contacts Information: You can manage or revoke access to your contacts at any time through your mobile device's settings menu.
- Account Deletion: You can delete your account at any time from the profile settings within the App. Upon deletion, we will take steps to remove your personal information from our active systems in accordance with our data retention policies.
5. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. We leverage the security capabilities of our cloud provider, Supabase, including encryption of data at rest and in transit.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. We may also retain information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
7. Children's Privacy
Our Service is not intended for individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have, we will take steps to delete that information.
